5 Ideas To Keep Horse Mad Kids Busy All Summer
The summer holidays are nearly upon us so now is the time to get organised and plan how you are going to keep your horse mad kids busy this summer. Here we have put together our top 5 ideas to keep your pony loving tots busy throughout the six weeks of the holidays. Plan something horsey each week and that is sure to keep a smile on their face!
1. Book Activities at the Local Riding School
Your little one may already attend regular riding lessons and often the riding schools put on extra activities during the summer holidays. This could be pony care days or Pony Club events. If you haven't already heard ask the instructor when you are next there and chat with your child to see what they would like to attend. Often these are full or half days packed full of pony fun and a great opportunity for learning. The summer is the perfect time for young riders to expand their knowledge on basic horsemanship and yard management. To support their learning the Pony Creative Learning Book is the ideal option and gives a young equestrian plenty of activities to do when stuck at home during the holidays.
2. Visit a Horse Show or Equestrian Event
Horse Shows are a great day out in the countryside and a chance to spend time as a family. It's lovely for children to see experienced riders out competing and feel inspired for the future. Use the day to discover different breeds and disciplines. Take plenty of photos and the children can enjoy making a scrapbook afterwards.
3. Make Time for Some Horse Themed Crafts
You can guarantee we wont have glorious sunshine for the full six weeks of the summer holidays so you need some activities to keep the kids entertained when stuck indoors. Horsey themed crafts are the ideal solution and can be done with friends on a play date. Here are a few of our favourite ideas
- Try creating Rosettes with coloured card, paper and ribbons
- Paint horseshoes if you can get some old ones from the farrier
- Miss Melody DIY Mane Kit with 8 different horses manes to style
- Make and decorate stable name signs for favourite ponies or toy ponies
- Miss Melody DIY Keychain Kit makes 3 pretty keyrings
4. Visit a Horse Rescue Centre
Many rescue centres welcome visitors and offer a chance to meet horses and ponies whilst learning more about animal welfare. Its lovely to be able to support a worthy cause and a good learning opportunity for children to understand the importance of responsible horse care. Many of the equine charities have quite a few ponies in which appeal to young pony lovers. Take a look on google and see which rescue centre close to you offers visitors.
5. Start a Riding Journal
If your child is new to riding or has been attending lessons for a little while, the summer holidays is a great opportunity to start a journal and track progress. The Pony Creative Riding Journal is the ideal solution, adding structure to tracking lessons and noting down goals for upcoming weeks. It also has pages for doodles, notes and drawings creating a fun equestrian scrap book. In the long term it makes a lovely keepsake to look back on
For horse-mad kids, summer isn't just about the school holidays, it's the perfect opportunity to spend more time doing what they love most. Whether they're riding every week or simply dreaming about their future pony, there are plenty of pony themed activities to keep them occupied.
