How to Pick the Perfect Horse Gift If You Know Nothing About Horses!

How to Pick the Perfect Horse Gift If You Know Nothing About Horses!

If you're looking for the perfect gift for an equestrian but you haven't a clue about horses you have arrived at the right place. Buying a gift for a horse lover can feel surprisingly intimidating if you don't know your bridle from your brushing boots! But that's exactly why The Horse Diva was set up. I wasn't from a horsey family and navigating the equestrian world when I started riding was quite a minefield. So when we launched The Horse Diva I was focussed on putting together collections that everyone could enjoy and understand. This handy guide breaks down a few helpful tips that should help you make your shopping choices in confidence.

What Type of Horse Lover Are you Buying For?

Just because the recipient loves horses it doesn't necessarily mean they are a keen rider or competitor. Do you know if they own/ loan or ride horses regularly? Even if they are a horse owner are their horses ridden or perhaps they are still too young or old and retired (i'm talking about the horses not the owners here!)?

Choose Between Practical or Personal Gifts

If you're confident the recipient is a horse owner or regular rider then a practical option such as riding socks or gloves may be the best route to go down. If you're unsure or think the recipient adores horses from afar then go for more of a personal touch with items such as gift sets, homeware or jewellery. If you're lacking in equestrian knowledge we would highly recommend opting for a personal gift! More than likely you don't know what practical items they have or need and no horse owner wants more clutter taking up space in the yard feed room.

Stay in Keeping with Their Personal Style

As with every aspect in our lives, we each have our own personal style and this will reflect into the equestrian world too. Even if you've never seen your loved one riding think about what the recipient wears and the style of her countryside home. Does she prefer bright and beautiful colours or is she partial to a neutral colour palette? Match your chosen gift to their style vibe.

Presentation Matters

Show how much care and attention you have put into your equestrian present by theming the items with horsey wrapping paper and a greetings card. Write a special note in the card explaining why you have chosen the specific items for them.

What To Avoid

We all want our chosen gifts to be a hit with the recipient so when buying for a horse lover we would advise against buying technical riding gear unless you have been given the exact piece and size desired. Guessing ladies clothing sizes can also be challenging so choose something that has more generic sizing such as one of our casual fit hoodies. When buying for kids if you're in doubt on sizing go for slightly bigger as they can always grow into it! There's no point having something the only just fits when children grow so fast. Don't get overwhelmed and go for something too generic that has no horse connection at all. It's lovely to show how thoughtful you have been when shopping for a present.

You don't need to know about horses to pick a special equestrian present, as long as you know the person then you are sure to find something they adore. If you need any help or advice you can always contact us and we will be happy to reassure you on your choices or make alternative suggestions.
